Title: Memento Mori
Author: [personal profile] velvetmouse
Recipient: [ profile] r_becca for the 2010 [ profile] springtime_gen exchange.
Character(s): Ginny Weasley, Harry Potter & Others
Rating: PG
Warnings: Very AU, bordering on crack!fic; the mental gymnastics required to deal with time travel cause-and-effect paradoxes; off-screen character death
Wordcount: 10,616
Summary: Voldemort is dead, and everyone can finally get on with their lives.  Years later, the Dark Lord's personal effects are found, and it seems that he recorded more than anyone guessed.  A tale of change, memory and immortality found in the written word.
Author's Notes: Consider this an alternate time-stream from what we know happened in canon; the reasons for the differences will be explained, but not until the end.
Betas: The always amazing S.

Pairing: Harry/Ginny
Rating: PG
Word Count: 2665
Summary: Help shows up when you least expect it.
Author's Notes: Just a little snippet of a (possible) missing moment from GoF :) I think I definitely hit on your request for secret rooms and hideouts, and there's a dash of banter thrown in for good measure.
Many many thanks to my beta, Sherry, who wrangles my drivel into something coherent.

Harry bit his lip to keep from laughing and fought valiantly to keep the corners of his mouth from twitching, but he was unable to keep his bright green eyes from dancing madly.

"Harry James Potter, stop that this instant and help us out of this mess!"

The reprimand would have been more effective if the speaker hadn't been bent into a position that a contortionist would have been proud of, and each limb hadn't been a different color. Not being tangled up with a large portion of the residents of Gryffindor tower might have also helped.

"But Hermione," Harry replied with feigned innocence, "you're the one who wanted to play twister. How was I to know that the wizarding version actually turned your hands and feet the colors of the dots?"

Hermione sighed as best she could from under Fred's armpit. "Just find the box and see if there are any instructions for how to undo the enchantment on the board, please?"

Green eyes met grey from across the room, each tinged with weary understanding.

Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy might have long time rivals, bitter enemies and on opposite sides of nearly every issue under the sun.

But there was one thing that they found they could always agree upon - girls went mad when the words "formal dance" were mentioned.

Harry crossed his eyes at Draco, and Draco rolled his in agreement. Then they each turned back to their respective girlfriends and continued nodding in all the right places, as the ladies went on and on about the upcoming event.

Title: Stakeout
Word Count: 100.
Characters/Pairings: Harry, Hermione
Challenge: Blood, Sweat and Tears

The sun rose blood red, promising another scorching day. They’d been stuck here for days, waiting in this baked wasteland.

Harry wondered what they were doing there. He was perpetually covered in sweat, a sticky film that captured all the blowing sand; Hermione seemed to have wilted in the heat. But their seer insisted this was where Lucius was going to show up. So they waited.

Finally, from the west, a slight breeze, the promise of relief. Then the clouds came and the rain began to fall. The weeping of the sky mixed with the salty tears on Harry’s face.

Characters/Pairings: The Trio
Challenge: The Law

They stopped in front of the statue of Justice; a tall, imposing woman, blindfolded, bearing her scales in one hand and sword in the other. They pondered this image silently.

They’d seen a lot of so-called justice in the last few years – the ministry’s spurious trial of Harry before their fifth year, Umbridge’s reign of terror. Oh yes, they’d seen a lot of “justice.”

“It’s good to remind ourselves of what justice should be.”

“What I don’t get is… Justice is blind, right? So howcome everyone says ‘in the eyes of the law?’ How can the law see?!”

They met in a dark corridor where no one would see them.

Weary green eyes locked onto flat grey ones. The fight had gone out of both.

“So then we both agree, there is too much else going on to continue this petty squabbling?”

“Agreed. But don’t try to save me. I don’t want to be saved.”

A slight smile. “Maybe not yet. But you will some day.”

“Perhaps. Or perhaps I will redeem you some day.” A faint smirk.

“Perhaps. Truce?”

A hand shake settled the deal and brought a little life back into both pairs of eyes.

Title: Worry
Word Count: 100.
Characters/Pairings: Harry, Ron
Challenge: Late

Hermione was late, and that was enough to turn The Boy Who Lived into The Boy Who Paced Nervously.

“Where is she?” Harry muttered for the fifth time, taking yet another lap around the common room.

“She’s only 10 minutes late. Maybe she slept in,” Ron scolded.

“Hermione? Sleep in? That’s like saying maybe she forgot to do her homework. Maybe we should check on her.”

“Or maybe she is just getting ready, and will kick your arse for interrupting.”

Harry looked unconvinced. Exasperated, Ron threw up his hands in defeat. “Fine, go check on her. I’m going to breakfast.”
