Title: What Dreams May Come (The BWV 140 Remix)
Fandom: Harry Potter/Fairy Tales
Characters: Snape, Hermione, Harry, Draco
Rating: T
Word Count: ~2000
Summary: Sleep is a luxury that you don't miss until it's gone.
Original Work: The Death of Each Day's Life by [archiveofourown.org profile] sophia_sol
Notes: The title is, of course, from Hamlet's famous speech in Act III, Scn. 1. The funky remix subtitle is better known as Bach's Wachet auf, or, Sleepers Wake.
The idea for this whole thing came from reading through [personal profile] sophia_sol's journal and seeing that a) she, like me, started this whole fandom thing in the SS/HG corner of Harry Potter fandom and b) she had some very interesting ideas about fairy tales in the Harry Potter universe.

Harry bit his lip to keep from laughing and fought valiantly to keep the corners of his mouth from twitching, but he was unable to keep his bright green eyes from dancing madly.

"Harry James Potter, stop that this instant and help us out of this mess!"

The reprimand would have been more effective if the speaker hadn't been bent into a position that a contortionist would have been proud of, and each limb hadn't been a different color. Not being tangled up with a large portion of the residents of Gryffindor tower might have also helped.

"But Hermione," Harry replied with feigned innocence, "you're the one who wanted to play twister. How was I to know that the wizarding version actually turned your hands and feet the colors of the dots?"

Hermione sighed as best she could from under Fred's armpit. "Just find the box and see if there are any instructions for how to undo the enchantment on the board, please?"

"Is he watching yet?"

"No – Yes. Harry just turned him around."

"Good. At the end of this song, we leave. With as much Gryffindor flair as you can manage."

"What?" In her surprise, Hermione nearly stumbled. It was only the skill of her partner that kept them moving in time with the music.

"I feel no more need to parade myself around in front of the gawking masses. I believe we have made our point adequately," Severus pointed out. Then he smirked. "But I also believe that Ronald Weasley requires something a bit more obvious to drive the message home."

Character(s): Ginny, Hermione

----------

“Whatcha got there?” Ginny asked.

“Just some old home movies that my parents made.” Hermione was seated on the floor of her parent’s living room, surrounded by boxes.

“What’re they?”

“Home movies?” Hermione asked in surprise. “Well, they’re sort of the Muggle equivalent of wizard pictures. Only they capture a whole length of time, not just one moment. Here, let me show you.”

Several hours later, Ginny’s sides hurt from laughing and Hermione’s face was burning.

“And I thought all the baby pics Mum has were embarrassing!” the red-headed girl crowed. “Just wait until I tell Ron!”

“You wouldn’t dare!”

Title: De Bello Imminenti
Word Count: 100.
Characters/Pairings: Hermione
Challenge: 100
__________

Hermione surveyed the field below her. Row after row of wizards stretched in the sunlight, as far as she could see. This was her army now.

The battle had gone on long enough, nearly a century after it started. Below her, squad commanders barked orders like Roman centurions.

She allowed herself a brief smile. Not quite a full Roman legion, but they would do. Several hundred men and women ready to fight to the death for her, for the magical standards bearing Hogwart’s crest, for the wizarding world.

Iacta alea est,” she said to the wind. “Merlin help us all.”
___________

Author’s Notes: The title meaning “About the Impending War”; the quote Hermione uses is from Suetonius’s “Life of Caesar” and is translated as “The die is cast.” This is supposedly (very supposedly, given that this is Suetonius writing…) what Julius Caesar said before crossing the Rubicon. It has come to mean “there’s no turning back now.”

Title: Stakeout
Word Count: 100.
Characters/Pairings: Harry, Hermione
Challenge: Blood, Sweat and Tears
__________

The sun rose blood red, promising another scorching day. They’d been stuck here for days, waiting in this baked wasteland.

Harry wondered what they were doing there. He was perpetually covered in sweat, a sticky film that captured all the blowing sand; Hermione seemed to have wilted in the heat. But their seer insisted this was where Lucius was going to show up. So they waited.

Finally, from the west, a slight breeze, the promise of relief. Then the clouds came and the rain began to fall. The weeping of the sky mixed with the salty tears on Harry’s face.

Title: Justice
Word Count: 100.
Characters/Pairings: The Trio
Challenge: The Law
__________

They stopped in front of the statue of Justice; a tall, imposing woman, blindfolded, bearing her scales in one hand and sword in the other. They pondered this image silently.

They’d seen a lot of so-called justice in the last few years – the ministry’s spurious trial of Harry before their fifth year, Umbridge’s reign of terror. Oh yes, they’d seen a lot of “justice.”

“It’s good to remind ourselves of what justice should be.”

“Yeah.”

“What I don’t get is… Justice is blind, right? So howcome everyone says ‘in the eyes of the law?’ How can the law see?!”
