"You really should eat it, sir."

"And why, exactly, should I do that?"

"Because if you don't, sir, then the First Lady is going to yell at me, and quite frankly, sir, she's scarier than you are."

"Are you sure this is creamed spinach? Because from where I'm sitting it doesn't look like creamed spinach."

"I promise, sir. I'll even try some to confirm, if it would make you feel better."

"You can have the whole thing if you want. I won't tell Abbey if you won't."

"Won't tell me what? Good evening, Charlie. Eat your spinach, Jed."

"Yes, dear."

Title: G is for Goldfish

CJ sprinkled fish flakes across the top of Gail's bowl and felt laughter bubbling up again. It was such an utterly ridiculous present and yet so very sweet. Honestly, who made that kind of mistake?

Shaking her head at the absurdity of it all, she checked her watch. Another hour before she had to go do her song and dance routine in front of the press again. Any amusement she might have felt was quickly swept away. This briefing - and those for the next few days - was not going to be fun. Lillienfield was gunning for Leo, and her own gaff the day before hadn't helped anything. Danny had been right about that.

If she were honest with herself, she had to admit that he was often right. She might be the press secretary, but Danny still had many more years of experience with the Washington press corp.

Thoughts of Danny brought her back to the goldfish at her hip, and this time she gave into the laughter. Really, it wasn't so bad. She had a good friend in the press corp, a good fight to fight and a goldfish named Gail. It could be so much worse.

"I'm going to see Kandula."

Josh looked up. Donna was standing in his doorway.

"Wha?"

Donna exhaled impatiently. "I'm going to see Kandula. You can live without me for a few hours."

"But what about -"

"In the blue folder under your left elbow."

"And - "

"On top of your keyboard."

"But what if - "

"His file is on my chair - it is the ONLY thing on my chair. Unlike some people I could mention." She turned to go.

"Wait - what's Kandula?"

"He is the Zoo's new Asian elephant. And I am going to see him."

Ariadne blinked and found herself in front of a familiar-looking building. The sting of the needle ghosted in her arm, but she was too distracted to notice it.

"The White House? You dreamed up Washington DC?" she asked her companion. "Not that I don't appreciate it, but couldn't we have gone here in, you know, reality?"

Arthur merely shook his head and smiled mysteriously.

"But what about that whole 'don't dream up real places' thing that you and Cobb are always going on about?" she demanded. "And what are we supposed to do here anyway?"

"Patience, my love," Arthur said, still looking enigmatic.

Whatever Ariadne was going to say next was cut off by a shout from someone emerging from the gates.

"Arthur! So glad to see you! Hope I didn't keep you waiting too long."

Ariadne turned to see a man hustling towards them. "Josh Lyman?" she blurted out when he got close enough for her to recognize.

The man - Josh - brightened up. "You must be Ariadne. I've heard a lot about you." He extended his hand to her. "So where do you guys want to go to dinner?" he continued brightly. "I know of this great little place in Georgetown and - "

"Josh!" This time it was a female voice and Ariadne turned to see a tall blonde woman coming through the same gate. She carried an overcoat draped over one arm and a purse in the other.

"Leo says that he needs you back by nine to go over the Holwitz briefing, Sam needs you to review the file he sent over before tomorrow morning, and CJ says that you're treating us all to dinner," she said, handing Josh the overcoat. "I swear, he would forget his head, if it wasn't attached," she said confidentially to Ariadne. "I'm Donna. You must be Ariadne."

Ariadne could only stand there dumbfounded, as two of her favorite tv characters argued in front of her.

"Well, come on then," Josh said. "Since I'm apparently buying dinner, let's get going."

Ariadne felt a tug on her hand, and she and Arthur trailed behind the other couple, who were still bickering congenially.

"You dreamed up West Wing's Washington?" she asked Arthur in a surprised whisper.

"Do you like it?" he asked shyly, suddenly looking very unlike the confident point man she had grown accustomed to.

"Best. Present. Ever!" she agreed enthusiastically, and stood on tiptoe to give him a kiss on the cheek.
